Beautiful Night Sky
Have you ever gotten the chance to really see the stars? It is definitely on my bucket list to go and see the night sky properly. Until then, Royce Bair’s photographs provide an amazing look into the sky. The ridiculous number of stars and all the different colors in these shots is simply stunning. His set is called Nightscapes and it includes many photos featuring the Milky Way.

Honest Logos
Honest Logos are a series of logos redone by Viktor Hertz. Hertz describes the set, “An idea for a series with honest logos, revealing the actual content of the company, what they really should be called. Some are cheap, some might be a bit funny, some will maybe be brilliant. I don’t know.” I love the idea and the product is really entertaining! You can see more on Flickr

To Resolve Project
Happy New Year everyone! With New Year’s comes resolutions and Chris Streger thought of a creative way to help people stick to their goals with the To Resolve Project. Instead of writing down your resolution in a list that you probably won’t look at the rest of the year, you put it on the one thing that you use probably way to often. He asked designers to create a resolution for...

Jonathan's Card: Want a free Starbucks?
Need a cup of Starbucks in the morning, but a little low on cash? Try using Jonathan’s Card! Jonathan Stark, a mobile application consultant, decided to share his Starbucks card number with the world. He put a screenshot of his card online for anyone to download and buy a coffee. The idea reminds me of the stories you hear around the holidays about people paying for the next person’s...

Simple Desktops
Choosing a desktop background always takes forever for me. The basic computer ones are boring and overused, while many images from the internet are too intricate and make the screen look crowded. Simple Desktops offers a great solution with a wide variety of minimalistic wallpapers for your computer. It’s a “collection of bling, drop shadow, and gradient free desktops to help keep...
Search by Image
Have you ever tried searching for something on Google, but just couldn’t find the right words to describe it? With Google’s new Search by Image option you can just take a picture of it and use it to search. The image search box now has a small camera button on the side which allows you to either enter a image’s url or upload an image and search for it. I tried doing a test...

Common Sense Design: The ClearRx Story
Deborah Adler’s work with the pharmacy prescription bottle from 2005 is a great example of the power of design. The story starts with Adler’s grandmother who fell sick after accidentally taking her husband’s medicine. The main issue was with the excess of confusing and small text on the bottles. There was no easy way of distinguishing between prescriptions as the design had...
"El Cielo de Canarias" (Canary Sky)
This time-lapse video is absolutely breathtaking! Daniel Lopez, a photographer and astrophotographer, has done an extraordinary job filming this. You can see the movement of the stars, clouds, sky, earth, and more. The cloud portions of the video are definitely my favorite. The blanket of clouds at 2:43, the waterfall effect at 2:55, and the ocean of clouds at 3:00 are just amazing! All the...

Mercedes Marketing
Here’s a creative advertising campaign that BBDO did for Mercedes-Benz. The easiest way to identify a Mercedes is by the front logo so this is the perfect way to play off of that! The campaign took place in Stuttgart (Germany) to get drivers to come and test drive cars at the Mercedes dealership. This is so much more powerful to promote sales than just another over the top TV commercial of...

Universal Wrapping Paper
I love this crossword idea for wrapping paper! It will never have the wrong pattern or message on it. It’s perfect for all occasions and is really creative. We always have christmas wrapping at home that doesn’t go used for a whole year because it wouldn’t work for any other occasion. The “Word puzzle universal wrapping paper” was designed by Fabio Milito and...
"The World Is Obsessed With Facebook"
Here’s a fun animated infographic about Facebook’s impact on our lives! It looks like spend way to much time online. The fact that 57% talk more online than “real life” is slightly depressing. Call a few friends up if you haven’t talked to them in a while or even better meet up with them in person to talk face to face :)

Innovative Facebook Profiles
I’m sure all of you know that the newest Facebook layout uses tagged photos as the top banner of your profile. Many people have used this system to make simple banners for their page using sites like Fbanners, ProfileBanner, and more. You can also easily make one by creating an album of the different parts of the banner picture and tagging yourself in it. I’ve seen the layout with...
Fruit Wrappings
Here’s some creative gift wrapping paper by Happy F&B. It definitely makes the present more exciting, no matter what is actually underneath the paper. I like how the inside of the wrapping paper stays consistent with the fruit look. The addition of the stickers makes it more convincing. And just a short side note, I love how Chiquita has successfully branded their logo and blue...

5-Year Diary
I’ve kept many diaries that I wrote in every night, but stopped a couple years ago. I found this amazing 5-year diary at the SF MoMa store and decided to start writing in a diary again! How it works is that each page is dedicated to one day and there is a space for five entries on that day, each space for one year. When the diary is completed or when you are making an entry after the...
New Starbucks Logo
Starbucks is rolling out a new logo at the time of its 40th anniversary. The brand is so strong and well known that the name of the company is no longer necessary for the logo. It also allows the company to more easily brand non-coffee products, such as tea. The pictures below show the evolution of the logo. The new logo is basically a bold graphic of the siren. The older logos have additional...

Snow Time-lapse Video
Although the snow stopped us from our family vacation, here’s a cool time-lapse video of it I saw on the news earlier. The video was done by Michael Black and shot with a Canon DLSR on a tripod with a remote timer taking a photo every five minutes. It plays approximately 20 hours in 40 seconds.

Word Lens
Word Lens is an application by Quest Visual that translates printed words by using the phone’s camera. The words in the printed language are replaced with the desired language and displayed in real time. The technology basically regenerates what you are looking at by using its dictionary capabilities to produce a translated image. As the video below shows, this would be useful on trips to...
Teach Parents Tech
“Every December, millions of tech-savy children descend on their homes and get asked to ‘fix the computer’. They want to help, but not spend so much time acting as tech support.” A few people at Google decided to make a website called TechParentsTech.org to help parents in need of tech support by providing easy to follow video tutorials. The website has a great user...
BMW: Exceeding the Limits
This billboard for BMW was developed by Serviceplan, a German ad agency. The designers were given the 165x7 foot light wall space at the Hamburg Airport to advertise the M3 Coupe. They successfully embraced the car’s “exceeding limits” theme by creating a billboard out of half letters and using the shiny floor to complete the sign. It’s amazing how they doubled the media...
The Magical Moon
I love this series of photographs taken by landscape astrographer and astronomy journalist Laurent Lavede! I enjoy looking at pictures that make you think about objects in nontraditional ways and Lavede explores such a wide range of these possibilities with his focus on the moon. These pictures are part of a project called “Moon Games.” Lavede has published a book called...

CNN en Español redesigned their logo in the process of making major changes to the network in October. I love the new logo; it’s perfect! The press release reads: “CNN en Español keeps the channel’s iconic red logotype, but will now include a tilde over the two “N’s.” This device suggests movement, the dynamic nature of news, and a reference to the language that unites our...

The Dipr
“the dipr” is a spoon that is designed for dunking sandwich cookies in your milk or beverage of choice. It allows for a “germ-free dunking experience since your fingers don’t have to touch the liquid anymore.” So if you’re a big fan of dipping cookies, this concept may be just the thing you need. I love how people can come up with designs for just about...

Mini Nutella!
I love the idea of having mini Nutella bottles! The little jars are so cute and convenient. The weekly pack is great for you addicts out there :) If any of you don’t know what Nutella is, it’s basically a hazelnut chocolate spread. I’m not sure if these are available in the US. Based on the blogs I saw these on, you can get them in France though.
